Grammys 2024: the red carpet proves the side parting is back with a vengeance

If you thought the side parting was gone for good, it’s time to think again.

In case you’ve missed it, there’s been talk for some years now about Gen Z being over and done with the side parting.

After the classic side part reigned supreme for the better part of two decades, some of this latest generation of adults decided they’d had enough and it was time to make room for some new hair partings.

But we’re here to tell you that after what we saw on the Grammys red carpet last night, the side part is back and stronger than ever, no matter what your age is.

Some stars styled theirs as more of a nod to the 00s, while others went full-flowing Hollywood heyday glamour.

Here’s a roundup of our favourite looks from the red carpet…

Victoria Monét

Monét, who took home not one, not two but three Grammys last night, rocked a subtle side parting that was 00s chic down to the ground.

Davontae’ Washington, who works with Monét on the regular, was her hairstylist for the evening and said on Instagram that the look was achieved by first prepping her hair with Wella’s Ultimate Repair Miracle Hair Rescue and a water spray bottle. He adds: “After spreading the product with a brush for detangling, I blow-dried the hair and curled it with a two-inch barrel for texture. Applying texture spray, I brushed the hair back, creating an effortless French roll, and secured it with pins. To complete the style, I used gloss spray and hairspray for a polished finish and control over flyaways.”

The Vampire singer was serving old Hollywood glamour with those glossy flowing locks and her deep, dark red lip. Very Veronica Lake, and very chic.

Of course Taylor Swift could never be, well… parted from her side part for long, having worked the look regularly since her Fearless era back in the late 00s. But last night’s look, with the bulk of her hair also flipped over one shoulder, accentuated it all the more.

Heidi Klum had her side-parted hair styled to be fluffy and flowing, falling around her shoulders in the careless sort of way that can only have taken heaps of effort.

Another look reminiscent of Hollywood’s golden age, Bailey’s incredible waist-length copper hair last night was both modern and classic at the same time. As one of the most liked comments on her Instagram put it: “Your wigologist needs to be awarded.”

Alessandra Ambrosio

The Brazilian model kept things sleek and simple on the red carpet, with her side-parted pin-straight hair tucked behind her ears, making sure her face was fully visible.
