The bob isn’t going anywhere in 2025. Here’s why the latest trending haircut, the ‘crob bob’, is the hybrid ’do we’ve been missing.

Haircut trends come and go but the bob doesn’t seem to be going anywhere for 2025. There’s the ‘gloss bob’ or the more vintage 60s-inspired shape – essentially, we’re not going to have a bob shortage anytime soon. However, the newest haircut that’s crept onto our radar is a hybrid ’do. Say hello to the ‘crob bob’.

Unlike the self-explanatory ‘shaggy bob’, the name of this one doesn’t give itself away and that’s because it’s a cross between your traditional bob and a shorter pixie cut. It’s essentially a pixie micro bob.

“This cut is super cool, we combine a short bob with lots of choppy layers that give a messy texture,” explains Christophe Potin, artistic director and educator at Aveda UK. If that didn’t sound cool enough already, he adds: “Think of the French singer Angèle, who wears it with a micro fringe”. We’re sold.

This hybrid approach to haircuts is reminiscent of the shorter hair trends that were everywhere in the 90s. “The 90s have always been known for high creativity in fashion, where the top models used to wear shorter hair like Linda Evangelista or Karen Elson,” says Potin. He says this is due to haircuts being more precise in that decade, whereas now we’re being more experimental with our shorter hair lengths.

This cut is a great way to experiment with a cropped style if you aren’t ready to commit to the full pixie cut just quite yet. When it comes to who this trend suits, Potin believes: “The crob haircut suits an oval to long face and the ideal hair texture would be straight to wavy”. He caveats that he, “wouldn’t particularly recommend this style on very curly and textured hair, but it can be cool if you’re ready to make a statement.”

We often assume the shorter a style is, the less high-maintenance it will be but it’s essential to style this haircut to give it a polished feel. Potin recommends prepping the hair with Aveda’s Texture Tonic to boost volume and movement, and then finishing off with their Control Paste. “Apply after a scrunch dry so you can flick the ends of your pixie bob to achieve that 90s finish,” he says.

If you’re feeling that the new year deserves a new haircut, here’s all the crob bob inspiration you need to take to your next hair appointment.
