2024 has been the year of the bob haircut, and its most popular iteration might be the simplest one, too. Here’s everything you need to know about the super chic chin-length bob.
Hairstyles come and go, but if time has taught us anything it’s that the chin-length bob will never go out of style.
Named after its definitive finish at the bottom of the chin, this versatile bob can be shaped to serve some French chic, with a Scandi twist, as a box bob or a short blunt bob. The list could go on and and on…
Each iteration is timeless and easily adaptable to every styling routine, whether you want it to be as low maintenance as running your fingers through your bed hair, or the lengthier process of a bouncy blow out. Whatever your preference, don’t forget about the importance of a good texturing spray!
Since the resurgence in this specific style, celebrities such as Hailey Bieber and Greta Lee have been at the forefront of this trend that only continues to rise in popularity as autumn approaches. Just think how chic a chin-length bob will look with a roll-neck jumper…
Bobby Collier, Stylist at Larry King says that this versatile hairstyle “usually follows [the edge of] your jawline” and though appropriate for all hair types, it’s best suited to heart or oval-shaped faces.
How to style a chin-length bob?
“Styling depends on the texture of your hair,” Collier says, “but I always think it’s nice with a soft wave, but if you’re going for more of a chic French bob look it’s best to do it straight.
The reason this style remains so popular is that the desired effect – a chic chop with a definitive, sharp finish – works with all hair types and can be very low maintenance to style.
If you’re ready to adopt this hairstyle, Collier says: “I would ask your hairdresser for a french bob. Something that is square and not longer in the front.
“A square bob means that it is the same length at the back that it is at the front. You can even lose the front corners sometimes to give it a little bit more shape and open the face out more.
“It’ll stop it from looking too heavy at the front. But yes squareness is the key with a chin length bob because you get that real sharp definition!”
With any new hairstyle, we’d always recommend taking some photo inspiration to the salon on your phone to show your stylist exactly how you would like your hair to sit. Here’s some chin-length bob inspiration for your next appointment…
