A new take on the classic bob combines two of the best timeless styles: the bixie cut. Here’s all the inspiration you need for a chic twist on two classics.
If 2024 was defined by a hairstyle, it would be the bob in all its bouncy, voluminous glory. And the latest 90s throwback to come back into fashion is the effortlessly chic bixie cut.
Think Halle Berry, Meg Ryan (or almost any other cool girl of the 90s) and picture the textured, choppy cut that can be tousled into shape with a run-through of your fingers.
A playful spin on a traditional bob, this hairstyle is a hybrid of two timeless styles as it combines elements of a bob with a pixie cut – as the name suggests.
It’s an edgier alternative to a typical blunt bob with the texture of a French bob and the eternal appeal of the mid-length shag or wolf-cut for its low-maintenance styling routine.
The nostalgic style has been perfected by the likes of Florence Pugh, Zoe Kravitz and Sarah Paulson, and Mitch Zidu, director of Studio58 salon, is on-hand to walk us through how to recreate this sought-after style.
What is a bixie haircut?
“This style typically features the short length and choppy layers of a pixie cut with the more voluminous and slightly longer shape of a bob,” Zidu says.
“The bixie cut offers a blend of edginess and softness, creating a versatile and modern look that can be tailored to suit different face shapes and hair types.”
This versatility makes it adaptable for all hair types, which is why it remains one of the most popular hairstyles this year. It can also be styled in different ways, from a sleek, straight finish to a textured, wavy look, which is perfect for a low-maintenance morning hair routine.
Zidu suggests asking your hairstylist “for a bob with lots of short layers and textures” to achieve the perfect bixie.
With so many bob styles back in fashion, it’s always best to take photo inspiration with you to the salon. We’ve saved you some time and found a host of beautiful bixies to show your stylist when that next appointment comes around.
