The trendy ‘Birkin bangs’ haircut is beloved by celebrities and perfectly embodies the chicness of French-girl beauty.
It’s the eternal question: shall I cut a fringe? And rightly so. Done right, a fringe can shape the face and emphasise features. When done wrong, it can lead to hair regrets, so it’s key to pick the right fringe for you.
If we look at some of the most iconic fringes of all time, the winner has got to be Jane Birkin. The full fringe with wispy layers at the front embodies the cool-girl quality we yearn for. This is likely why ‘Birkin bangs’ are back and trending again.
“Bangs are definitely back, but they’re taking on a more effortless, slightly undone feel,” says celebrity hairstylist Jay Birmingham. “The classic, heavy fringe is being swapped for softer, feathered styles,” he adds.
This particular set of bangs, though, is the style he predicts will be everywhere this spring. “Birkin bangs, which have that wispy, parted look, are a great way to add a touch of 70s elegance without overpowering one’s face,” he explains.
While we saw the popular Birkin and French bobs popping up last year, if you want to keep your length but still nail that French-girl beauty, this fringe is the way to go.
If you’re mulling over whether to cut, here’s our round-up of the best Birkin-inspired bangs to take to your hairdresser.
