Looking for your next haircut? Stylists believe these six haircuts and styles will be everywhere this season.

As we put away our heavy coats and dust off our open-toed shoes, the longer evenings and the promise of warmer weather ahead make it the perfect time to book in for a haircut. New season, new you.

If you’ve been struggling for ideas on how to zhuzh up your hair, we asked three hair experts what haircuts they predict will be everywhere this spring, so make sure you bookmark this for your next visit to the hairdresser.

From the return of a 90s icon to why experts think spring is the perfect time to chop a fringe, these are the six hair trends they expect to be everywhere this season.

6 hair trends for spring

Now is the perfect time to get a fringe

There’s no denying that fringes have been gunning for a comeback, and there’s no better time to embrace bangs. “I think face-framing or statement fringes are great for spring,” says Andreas Wild, hairstylist at Larry King Notting Hill.

“They’re heavier, kinkier and can flip out to the side. Lots of women grow out their fringe for summer because they don’t want to get too hot or sweaty on their forehead in the heat,” he adds.

If he had to pick one particular fringe for this season? “I love a chunky face-framing fringe with slightly uneven length around the chin, disconnected through the rest of the hair to make it more of a statement. It looks great when you put your hair up, which you will inevitably do more often in spring as it gets warmer,” says Wild.

90s romcom hair

We may have seen the romom bob making waves, but the endless texture of the era is about to have a massive revival. “I love the 90s Julia Roberts-esque layered shapes. They are mid-length and layered and just so easy and versatile to work with day to day,” says Johnathan Eagland, senior stylist at Nicola Clarke Salon.

Even better? This is the perfect way to incorporate two trends in one hairstyle. “Incorporating a fringe at the same time is also brilliant,” he adds.

The choppy bob

While blunt haircuts like square or angel bobs have been trending lately, Wild predicts this is all about to change this season.

“Bob-wise, I think it’s quite nice to go more choppy for the season,” says Wild. “Staying away from the one-length style bobs makes the hair more free and relaxed. Use a mousse or the Larry King Curl Enhancer with a diffuser to make some amazing natural waves in the hair,” he says. If your curls aren’t keen on heat, Wild says you can let them air dry for this look.

The Italian bob 2.0

The Italian bob was one of the biggest haircuts of last year, and it’s still around – just with a bit of a twist. “Bobs are still hugely popular, but the trends are evolving,” says celebrity hairstylist Jay Birmingham. “The super-structured, sharp bob is potentially making way for softer, more relaxed versions. The Italian bob is back but slightly longer, with natural movement and volume,” he says.

Rapunzel hair

With all the bobs banging about, it’s time for something different, and what’s more different than Rapunzel-worthy lengths? “I am seeing more clients who want to have super-long hair – I’m talking four or five inches below the chest,” says Wild.

If you’ve got bob fatigue and are ready for something unstyled and easy, the good news is that this hairstyle is effortless. “That hair, when you let it dry naturally, can make it look like you have just strolled off the beach. Picture Shakira or J-Lo’s hair – long, more unevenly cut or razored at the ends. It gives it that soft, effortless and sexy finish,” he says.

Birmingham agrees: “Instead of blunt cuts, clients are leaning toward longer, airier layers and extra-long extensions. Flowing waves with a relaxed, undone finish are becoming a go-to style, giving an effortless springtime feel. It’s a great alternative for those who want to keep their length but still introduce shape and volume,” he says.

Feathered layers

Rather than poker-straight locks, we’re all about embracing texture for spring.

“I’d love to see people embracing more natural movement in their hair. Instead of overly structured styles, airy, feathered layers that create volume and texture feel really fresh for spring,” says Birmingham.
