Everything you need to know about the ‘angel bob’ haircut that’s taking over social media

Social media can’t get enough of this blunt, sculpted haircut. Here’s exactly what to ask your hairdresser for to get the look.
As much as we love the effortless, messy haircuts like the frayed bob we’ve been admiring lately, sometimes we want to go for a more styled approach. As we’ve learned from the messy bun, sometimes looking effortless means putting in a bit more effort. However, this bob is ultra-styled, so you know it will stay in place.
If you appreciate a sculptural ’do, the new ‘angel bob’ that social media has been enjoying will be right up your street. This angelic haircut is notable for its defined look: no wispy edges or strands out of place.
“It’s a modern approach to a bob that’s all about how the hair is cut, with weight being taken from the outline, which makes the hair flick at the ends,” explains Dale Herne, hairstylist at Hershesons Fitzrovia. This cut requires no layers and is razor sharp at the ends to create an even length.
While it’s been popular on social media and with celebrities, this bob takes inspiration from the golden era of Hollywood. “It’s a modern take on the classic 60s flicked-out bob look,” says Herne. The angel bob is incredibly customisable and can work on a variety of different lengths, depending on how chin-grazing you want to be.
While Herne believes the haircut will suit most face shapes, it’s not quite so versatile when it comes to hair types. “This look suits most hair, whether you have smooth or wavy hair, but I wouldn’t recommend this cut for very curly hair,” says Herne.
Unlike some bobs that can work with your natural hair texture, if you’ve got anything but dead-straight hair, you’ll have to take a little more time out of your day to style it to create those signature angelic flicked-out ends than you would with more low-maintenance bobs, like the shaggy bob.
However, we think it’s worth taking a bit more time to get the cutesy shape. For this, Herne recommends that you “dry the hair from a bird’s eye view above the head, with the nozzle pointing down – I recommend Hershesons The Great Hairdryer. Use your fingers as a grip and flick the ends of the hair out over a brush,” he says.
