Everyone’s going to be ‘hair bronzing’ this spring – here’s how to make it work for you

Thinking about a colour refresh? Here’s why you might want to consider hair bronzing…
As the seasons change, the desire for a hair refresh is almost inevitable. From sun-kissed balayage to dimensional highlights, the options for updating your colour are endless. Over the last few seasons, it’s clear that warmth – which we’ve seen in the rich depths of terracopper and the soft glow of teddy bear blonde – has been making a major comeback, and those warm hues are set to stick around into spring and beyond.
If you’re looking to add a sun-kissed glow without fully committing to a dramatic colour change, hair bronzing could be the trend for you. Think of it as bronzer for your hair – a way to add warmth, dimension and that ‘just got back from holiday’ radiance. “I’m seeing so many clients head towards the warmer tones recently,” says Harriet Muldoon, hair colour expert at Larry King. “All my blondes are leaning towards warmer golden shades and honey hues, while brunettes are also warming things up with rich warm shades.”
Wondering how to make it work for you? Whether you’re blonde, brunette, or somewhere in between, this trend can be tailored to enhance your natural shade while adding a healthy, sun-kissed glow. Here’s how to get the look…
Toffee blonde
An update of ‘bronde’, toffee blonde teeters on the edge of the border between blonde and brunette, with a rich warm tone that feels expensive and luxurious. “Imagine this shade being bronzer for the hair,” says Muldoon. “I think this tone works great for all skin tones.” If you’re looking for a sophisticated, effortless update, toffee blonde could be a great option.
Burgundy brown
We’ve seen this tone enter our wardrobes and our nails, and now it’s making its way to our hair. “This shade is a deep rich red with a hint of purple melted into a brown base, giving it a multi-tonal effect in different lighting,” Muldoon notes. “At the Golden Globes, we saw a lot of these tones. It’s a stand-out look.”
Ruby-red brown
“This is a vivid red tone that can be added to a brunette base for a bold, statement look,” says Harriet. “Dua Lipa rocked this look.”
Noir brown
For those who love dark, glossy hair, noir brown is the shade to watch. “Inspired by Demi Moore and Kylie Jenner at the Golden Globes, this colour is the darkest shade before black, maintaining a natural appearance with intense shine,” says Muldoon.
Bronzed brunette
This look is for brunettes who are keen on multi-tonal hair but still want to feel like a brunette. “To create this look, go for a balayage and layer with some rich dark blonde tones. It’s all about achieving a sun-drenched, naturally bronzed effect that’s both sophisticated and low-maintenance,” says Muldoon.
