Fans have been calling out for a reformulation of the product since the original formula was changed last year…
Glossier fans: today is a good day. The brand has announced the launch of a new Balm Dotcom flavour, and with it, a return to its much-loved OG formula.
If you weren’t aware of the Glossier reformulation drama, let us get you up to speed. Glossier’s Balm Dotcom has been a cult product ever since launching back in 2014, but last year the brand reformulated its ingredients in order to make the lip balm vegan and “more hydrating”. Lanolin was removed from the formula (a wax that comes from sheep’s wool) and replaced with a lab-made, synthetic version.
Glossier fans weren’t happy about the update, with whole threads dedicated to the subject on Reddit. “Why would you alienate all the BDC fans?” one customer wrote on Instagram. “I can’t believe another holy grail product bites the dust. 🤦🏻♀️. Just make a vegan lip balm and call it something else but leave the OG alone!!!!”
Fans also argued that the reformulation hadn’t increased hydration levels within the lip balm, calling out for a return of the original formula.
Fast forward a year, and today’s launch of Strawberry Balm Dotcom sees the lip balm returning in its original formula. Available in a jammy strawberry flavour, the formula returns with the inclusion of lanolin, beeswax and castor seed oil to keep your lips hydrated and soft.
While the new Strawberry Balm Dotcom flavour has reverted back to the original ingredients list, the rest of the Balm Dotcom line continues to be sold in its current vegan-friendly formula.
When the brand first launched, Glossier paved the way as one of the first beauty brands that really listened to its customers, and we’re glad to see they’ve taken the feedback onboard once again. It will be interesting to see if they decide to reformulate the rest of the Balm Dotcom collection.
But first: grab a Strawberry Balm Dotcom before it inevitably sells out…
