No beauty brand has captured the internet in quite the way Glossier has. The US range is a byword for a particular pared-back, cool-girl look and when it launched in the UK just over a year ago there was nothing but rapturous applause.

The brand’s next move comes in the form of reformulated Gen G lipsticks. With a bigger bullet, more intense colour payoff and longer staying power, Stylist caught up exclusively with Katie Jane Hughes – the make-up artist behind Glossier’s campaign images – to find out her favourite ways of using them.

Play mix ‘n’ match

“The great thing about these six shades is that they suit everybody – and they can all be mixed together. You can literally put one shade on the top lip and one on the bottom and push lips together, or just straight up layer them. Leo and Zip go well together, but there really are no rules.”

Create blurred lines

“Gen G is great for getting a soft-focus finish. Apply a little concealer around the perimeter of your mouth – avoiding the lips – using a fluffy brush to soften the edges of the natural lip line before applying your chosen shade. That allows you to create more of a blurred finish.”

Use it as a stain

“As a make-up artist I love applying products with my fingers, and this is no different. Apply one coat straight onto lips, and then swirl your ring finger around the top of the bullet to warm the formula up slightly before pressing it into lips to create more of a stain.”
