The secret beauty detail we’ve all been missing in Game of Thrones

HBO’s Game of Thrones is back on our televisions, bringing us ever closer to the big finale. And, now that the TV show has overtaken George R R Martin’s books, fans are desperately searching for something, anything, that could hint at the future of our favourite characters.

Well, it seems as if one such clue was hiding in plain sight in the season seven premiere – we were all just too busy cheering on tiny feminist Lyanna Mormont to notice.

We are talking about Sansa Stark’s not-so-subtle hairstyle.

We’ve long suspected that Sophie Turner’s character had it in her to betray her half-brother (or cousin, depending on which fan theory you believe), Jon Snow.

So, when she undermined him in his meeting with the Northern lords, we were immediately on tenterhooks to see what would happen next between the siblings.

Taking his half-sister to one side, Jon asked her to show him some respect in front of the rest of his court, and repeated his desire to prepare for battle with the White Walkers.

Sansa, though, was unimpressed by his tales of undead zombies, and warned him to remain conscious of the threat from the south — namely, Cersei Lannister.

“You're the military man but I know her,” she told him. “If you're her enemy she'll never stop until she's destroyed you. Everyone who has ever crossed her she's found a way to murder.”

Jon, startled, replied: “You almost sound as if you admire her?”

Cue Sansa’s eyes sidling to the left, as she admitted: “I learned a great deal from her.”

She was most likely talking about, y’know, the art of deception, murder and political warfare – but we couldn’t help but notice that she’s also picked up a few beauty tips, too.

Yup, it appears Sansa styled her hair in the exact same way that Cersei wore her hair while Sansa was still in King's Landing.

Not such a big deal, right? There are only so many intricate braided medieval hairstyles a girl can try, after all.

Well, maybe not.

Speaking to Refinery29, Turner admitted that her character’s hair actually reveals a lot more about her than we’d ever realised.

“Sansa’s hair is constantly reflecting the people she’s learning from, or mimicking, or inspired by at the time.

“When she’s Cersei’s prisoner, and she’s kind of absorbing all her manipulative techniques, it’s reflected in her hairstyle, and when she’s finding the spirit of Margaery in herself, she wears her hair like Margaery.”

Hmm. This suggests that a) Cersei still has some sway over her “little dove”, b) Sansa is intent on murdering everyone she needs to in order to secure the title of ‘Queen of the North’, or c) she has designs on the Iron Throne itself.

Either way, we suggest that Jon keep a wary eye on his sister from now on.
