French fashion house Celine is launching its first perfume under creative director Hedi Slimane, first teasing a video and photo and later showcasing the whole new perfume collection.
Back at the start of 2018, designer Hedi Slimane (previously at Dior Homme and Saint Laurent) caused a stir when he was brought on as creative, image, and artistic director at Celine. With his new transformative vision for the brand (including dropping the accented ‘é’), quite a lot changed in a very short space of time. And now, he’s about to launch a new Celine fragrance – the first from the brand in 55 years.
Celine’s debut scent, the green floral Vent Fou, came out in 1964. The brand hasn’t dropped many more since, despite previous creative director Phoebe Philo making famed fragrances for brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Loewe during her ten years at Celine. Slimane worked on scents for Dior Homme during his time there, and also created Christian Dior’s first scent since the brand was founded in 1947.

Celine has left Paris Fashion Week attendees furious. Here’s why.
But on Sunday night, Celine teased a shot on Instagram of what looks like a metal mould that’s been broken into three parts in dark monochrome tones, giving the vibe of a monument or a modern art sculpture. The caption reads: “Celine Haute Couture Parfumerie collection debut #celinebyhedislimane #celinehauteperfumerie”, which couldn’t be more clear that it is, indeed, a fragrance line launching.
A video was also posted showing close-ups of the metallic compartments, with the caption “15 years after the creation of Maison Christian Dior perfume collection, Hedi Slimane presents his Haute Parfumerie Collection for Maison Celine.”
The brand has now shared campaign images of the new scents (11 in total) available in autumn.

“The collection is inspired by the French parfum tradition and its meaning today, personal interpretations of culture, memory and experience and makes no distinction between established masculine and feminine notes,” according to the release. If Slimane’s previous creations are anything to go by, these scents are bound to stand out.
