“Can a ‘brow facial’ really give you the best eyebrows of your life? I put it to the test”

“As someone who only gets her brows done a few times a year, I wanted to test out a new ‘brow facial’ treatment to see if it really made a difference to the condition of my arches,” says Stylist’s senior beauty writer, Charlotte Bitmead.

While I’m diligent with masking my hair and exfoliating my skin weekly, my brows get left out of my routine. At a push, I get them threaded around three times a year and pluck any strays DIY-style. I run a pencil through them and set them in place with a brow gel, but that’s as complicated as it gets. This is why the idea of a 90-minute brow facial focusing on two strips of hair had me intrigued.

Do you need a specific session to give your brows some TLC? According to brow artist Hollie Parkes, you do. She believes brow care is vital for hair growth and enviable fluffiness, which is where this treatment comes in.

During the 90-minute treatment at Claridge’s, you can opt for either a session focused on brow health and growth or a ‘brow spa’. Each is the definition of brow luxury, both setting you back £400 (with spa access included in the price).

No matter which you pick, the experience is totally customisable. Not only will you leave with groomed brows – with options from shaping, tinting, microblading and lamination on offer, but you will also experience a ‘half face facial’. The latter involves massage techniques that lift the face, according to Parkes, so you’ll leave with a temporary sculpted effect.

This section involves removing tension from the area through massage and stretching techniques – think of it as brow yoga. Parkes believes this preps the brows for shaping, with some clients finding the stretching element even helps them breathe better.

First, Parkes starts off by cleansing the skin of any make-up, which is then followed by a facial massage, gua sha lymphatic drainage technique and cooling cryo globes to de-puff. This is the perfect base for Parkes to sketch out my brows and neaten them up. I opt for threading. She’s known for her precise brow skills, which focus on achieving symmetry.

A brow mask is then applied, while some under-eye patches get to work. After, it’s a 20-minute session under LED lights, followed by eye cream.

Parkes offers to redo my brow make-up before I leave. My brows are done so precisely that I’m sure I’ll never be able to replicate the experience; she certainly puts my messy brow sketching to shame.

It’s as relaxing as it gets, but obviously an indulgence or something only someone like me who only gets their brows done every quarter could realistically do due to the price tag. However, Parkes’s approach to brows is inspiring – it has me applying a brow serum that was previously collecting dust and the tweezers waiting for me at home seem dismal in comparison to this luxe brow experience.

This is definitely worth it for anyone struggling with their shape or aspiring for twin-looking brows (well, as close as you’ll be able to get to them, anyway).
