Struggling to style your freshly-cut bob? These are the best texturising sprays.
Cutting your hair into a bob can be a fun and refreshing change, but it can also throw your styling routine into disarray. Where you might have previously known how your hair would behave, the shorter length of a bob introduces a whole new texture and dynamic that can be difficult to manage. But with a couple of styling tweaks, you can easily recreate that ‘just left the salon’ finish at home.
Enter dry texturising spray. These multi-use hair sprays are quickly going to become your go-to bob hairstyle solution, providing just the right amount of grit and hold to create that effortlessly chic, piecey look with minimal effort.
Whether you’re sporting an Italian bob, a blunt bob, a 90s-inspired bob, or a nape-grazing bob, a good texturising spray is essential. Find the right one, and it can instantly transform your style by adding volume, definition, and an undone texture that elevates your look with minimal effort. Wondering which is best for you? We asked some of the UK’s top hairdressers for their best texturising sprays, specifically for bob haircuts. These are the ones they rate…
Schwarzkopf Session Label The Texturizer
“Schwarzkopf Session Label The Texturizer is amazing on Scandi-length bobs as it gives super soft texture making short hair move and look undone,” says Christel Barron-Hough, founder and creative director at STIL salon. “It’s great to use after tongs to secure soft movement.”

Living Proof Jumbo Full Dry Volume & Texture Spray
“To give your bobs that ‘bite,’ I use Living Proof Dry Volume and Texture Spray to get rid of slip and add volume without the weigh down,” says DJ Quintero, celebrity hairstylist and global ambassador at Living Proof. “For shorter styles, concentrate at the root and spray upwards. The key? Keep shaking the can between sprays for even product distribution. What I also love is that the formula is revivable, and you can’t over-work it.”

Neäl & Wølf Texture: Dry Texture & Finishing Spray
“Neäl & Wølf Dry Texture Spray is a multi-functional dry shampoo and finishing spray that helps create shape, movement, and dimensional texture – it works to maintain hold and volume whilst retaining your hair’s natural flexibility, making it the perfect tool for everyday styling,” says Laura Elliott, head stylist at Neäl & Wølf. “It’s also ideal for those with bob haircuts as it can add volume at the roots, making the bob look fuller and more dynamic, this is especially useful for thin or fine hair types that might otherwise look flat in a bob cut.”

Authentic Beauty Concept Airy Texture Spray
“This dry texturising spray enhances a bob with effortless volume and texture. It boosts fullness while keeping hair manageable, making it ideal for crafting a polished yet laid-back look,” says hairdresser Samantha Cusick.
Oribe Dry Texurising Spray
“Oribe Dry Texurising Spray is a great choice for bobs, thanks to its strong hold, yet lightweight finish,” says celebrity hairstylist Tom Smith. “It’s great for all hair textures but particularly hair that is prone to falling flat or whose silkiness inhibits long lasting body and movement.”
Hair by Sam McKnight Cool Girl Barely There Texture Mist
“Sam McKnight also offers two incredible texture sprays,” suggests Smith. “‘Cool Girl’ is a super easy-to-use and lightweight texture spray for those who already have some lift and movement in their hair or who like a very natural, ruffled hold. Then there’s ‘Easy Updo Texture Spray’ which is a great choice for bob lengths that need much more control or grip or maximum volume.”

Unite Texturiza Texturizer Spray
“Unite Texturiza is my all time favourite. I love that it’s not too strong, it’s easy to play with and creates good movement and volume,” says Olly Ay, senior stylist and colourist at HARI’s Salon. “Best of all it’s not sticky – it’s great for shorter hair styles and bobs.”
Hair By Sam McKnight Sundaze Sea Spray
“For those with a slight natural wave in their hair, cutting a bob can definitely bring those waves out so I would suggest the Sundaze Sea Spray by Sam McKnight,” says Molly Newell, creative stylist at Neil Moodie Studios. “This is a fabulous spray to help create an amazing texture in your hair. You can apply it on wet or dry hair to get that full textured look. It works especially well on bob hair lengths to help create movement and volume – but it wont give you that sticky, crunchy feeling.”

Hershesons Airdry Spray
“I love Airdry spray as it gives just the right amount of hold, which can be worked through with your fingers throughout the day,” says hairstylist Dale Herne. “It’s definitely my go-to product to give effortless lived-in texture that holds.”
Davines This is Dry Texturizer
“For me there is just one texturizer product that I love to use and it’s this one from Davines. Its formula is brilliant for pretty much all hair types and lengths but it is particularly good to create that effortless, messy bob,” explains Mihaela Vatafu, director at Taylor Taylor London.
“My favourite way to use it for a bob style is to tip the head forward and spray some texturiser around the nape of the neck and then some more of your hair as it falls forward on your face. Then, tip your head back and spray a little more before shaking your hair with your hands.
“It’s a hybrid between a light hairspray and a dry shampoo with a little added moisture that prevents the stickiness that you can often get from a hairspray. It’s light to wear and has hold without weighting the hair down and you can still run fingers through your hair which is always important to my clients. Plus, it smells amazing too!”
