Tints, oils, stains and balms – there’s a whole range of lip launches vying for your attention, and it’s time to pick your fighter.
I’m not sure how it happened, but I was clearing out my handbag earlier this week and found no fewer than seven different lip products rolling around at the bottom of it.
Of course, I kept them all in there because I couldn’t possibly pick a favourite, but it’s important to note that the collection must have started off much more minimally: there’s an almost-empty Clarins lip oil that took precedence for a decent chunk of time. Then – slowly but surely – it seems like I just threw in every new balm, oil, stain and tint that I liked the sound of for no other reason than I wanted to try it.
The thing is, until this clear out happened, I wouldn’t have called myself a lip product enthusiast. However, the evidence I’ve presented myself with very much suggests otherwise and, truth be told, the obsession started for two reasons: 1) Because there have been so many incredible launches over the past few months (SpaceNK recently noted a 283% increase in lip treatments compared to 2023) from a number of different brands, and 2) I seem to have absolutely no self-control at all.
So, with that in mind, here’s my pick of the bunch: the products that caught my eye, were given my seal of approval and, most importantly, have ended up in my bag.
Best lip balms, tints oils and glosses 2024
NYX Professional Makeup Fat Oil Slick Click
I wasn’t sure what to expect the first time I used this, but let it be known how much I love this little click stick. Truly innovative, each click promises the perfect dose, and packed inside the tube is a balmy, lightweight formula that offers 12-hour hydration. Available in 12 shades, it’s bolstered with avocado, cloudberry and raspberry oil.

Gisou Honey Infused Lip Oil
Available in a few flavours and colours, the thing I like about Gisou is that every product in the range is powered by honey from founder Negin Mirsalehi’s bee garden. In these lip oils, it’s combined with hyaluronic acid, jojoba and meadowfoam seed oils for ultimate hydration.
Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Big Lip Plumpgasm
I’m a big fan of CT’s Pillow Talk franchise, and this lip gloss is a very welcome addition. I love the sheer wash of colour it has, but be warned that it does tingle lips when applied. Aside from that, it feels comfortable and hydrating to wear, and staying true to form, it has a diamond-shaped applicator.

Milk Makeup Kush Sheer Tinted Lip Oil in Green Dragon
Don’t be put off by the green shade of this one – it comes out clear. As well as having one in my bag, I also have one on my bedside table to apply at night. I love how glossy it is, and that it’s also non-sticky. Plus, it’s formulated with a blend of conditioning oils to nourish lips.

Jones Road Beauty The Lippie Stick in Buff
Sitting somewhere between a balm and a traditional lipstick, this tinted formula is a real your-lips-but-better shade that nourishes and softens thanks to the blend of plant-based oils and cocoa butter. Available in 11 shades, I love that it can be easily applied on-the-go, no mirror required.

Byoma Liptide pH Lip Oil
Everything Byoma does I pay attention to, and its foray into lip care is worth knowing about. This formula adjusts to your skin’s natural pH to leave a suits-all tint behind. Plus, it’s enriched with peptides, avocado oil and tamanu oil alongside the brand’s liptide complex that helps protect the delicate skin barrier and prevent moisture loss.
Lisa Eldridge Gloss Embrace Lip Gloss in Songbird
I am yet to meet a Lisa Eldridge product that I don’t like, and so it’ll come as no surprise to hear that these glosses tick every box. Available in a range of shades, Songbird – a light beige pink – is my favourite, and I love that it adds colour and nourishes lips with a blend of butters and oils.

Tom Ford Soleil Liquid Lip Blush
A new take on Tom Ford’s iconic Lip Blush, this moisturising liquid balm applies clear and works to enhance the natural colour of your lips while adding an incredible shine. It’s a limited edition, though, and we predict it’ll sell out, so be quick if you want to get your hands on it.
Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil
A real viral favourite, Dior’s newest addition to the Lip Glow line is infused with cherry oil to nourish, protect, soften and revitalise the lips in one fell swoop. It comes in 11 non-greasy, non-sticky shades. I find this formula to be incredibly moisturising with a slight hint of tint that I love.
Vieve Lip Dew in Rosa
Sitting somewhere between an oil and a gloss, this shade is an incredibly wearable your-lips-but-better kind of shade that I reach for a lot. It glides on easily, pairs well with liner and is infused with raspberry seed and green tea extract to soothe dryness and soften chapped lips.
