“I’m a beauty editor and these are the 12 products I’m telling all my friends to buy”

I test out hundreds of beauty products each month, but these are the ones I’m obsessed with…
As a beauty journalist, my job is pretty varied. If I’m not interviewing dermatologists about new-to-market ingredients, writing up trend reports or figuring out which bob haircut is set to be the summer’s big trend, the chances are I’m swatching, sniffing and playing around with new beauty launches that land on my desk. And while I get to write about the new discoveries I love (like this genius hair oil, fool-proof hair styler and all-time favourite cream blushers), there are products I use every single day that I don’t always have a chance to shout about.
From the nail varnish top coat I won’t do a manicure without to the no-frills moisturiser I swear everyone should use, these 12 products really are worth the hype. Some are new, some are cult classics. And while I’ve repurchased many of them time and time again, I’ve also recommended them to everyone I know – and now, that includes you…
Lanolips The Original 101 Ointment
This is hands down the best lip balm on the market and I won’t hear another word about it. Made with pure medical-grade lanolin, it’s balmy and rich without feeling sticky or gloopy. I also apply it on my cuticles – especially around my thumbs where I’m prone to skin picking – and it helps to heal the skin overnight.

Lisa Eldridge Lip Liner
While this is a fairly new discovery of mine, it’s one I’ve already persuaded a handful of friends (and their mums!) to buy. The formula is buttery soft and seriously creamy, so it melts into your lips like a lipstick but with the precision of a lip liner. My favourite shade is 1C – a peachy ‘your-lips-but-better’ shade that gives you a perfect natural-looking everyday hue.
Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray
One of the best hair products invented (seriously, I hold this as high as the launch of GHDs) this heat-activated, anti-humidity spray gives your hair a salon-finish shine like nothing else on the market. Simply spray it all over damp hair and activate it with your hair dryer – the weightless formula forms an invisible waterproof cloak over your hair, seeking to repel moisture and minimise the look of flyaways, frizz and fluffiness. The end result? Salon-worthy shiny that lasts up to three washes.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
If you paint your nails at home, promise me you’ll never do another DIY mani without using this multi-award-winning top coat. It transforms any slap-dash varnish job into a smooth, gel-like finish – with no bubbles, smudges or smears. Plus, it helps your nail polish dry faster, meaning you can get on with your day too. I discovered this about 11 years ago and have never looked back since.
CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser
Loved by dermatologists and other beauty editors alike, this brilliant cleanser really does tick all the boxes. It’s packed with ceramides, meaning it’s gentle on the skin barrier while salicylic acid helps to gently exfoliate, dissolving dead skin and pore-clogging impurities to encourage the appearance of a smoother surface.
Medik8 Total Moisture Daily Facial Cream
It’s not the cheapest moisturiser on the market but it really is brilliant. With a featherlight formula that’s powered by a unique blend of peptides and multi-weight hyaluronic acid, it works to support your skin barrier with lasting moisture. The result? Healthy-looking, hydrated and happy skin that glows from within. Bingo.

The Inkey List PHA Exfoliating and Hydrating Body Water Cream
I’ve always been bad at remembering to moisturise my body but this lightweight water cream is a dream to use. Supercharged by dual-acting 3% PHA, it also very gently exfoliates away dull and dry skin cells while doubling as a humectant to attract moisture. The result? Soft and smooth skin that’s in no way greasy. Win-win.

Jones Road The Best Pencil
When make-up artist Bobbi Brown named this The Best Pencil – she wasn’t far wrong. It’s creamy enough to apply like a dream and be blended out to create an easy sultry smoky eye that won’t budge once you’ve applied it. It also doesn’t transfer onto your eyelid if you’ve got hooded eyes. A must.
Bare By Vogue Face Tanning Serum - Medium
I am a year-round fake tanner but I’ve recommended this face-tanning serum to even the most hesitant of fake tanning friends and they’ve all loved the results, too. Packed with skincare, and just a small amount of tanning agent, it gives your skin a natural-looking glow overnight, while simultaneously nourishing your skin. If it’s ever discontinued, I’m sorry, but I’ll be the one who’s going around bulk-buying all remaining stock.
Victoria Beckham Beauty Vast Lash Mascara
I’d argue that this is one of the most underrated mascaras on the market. It lengthens, volumises and lifts in one – all while being a tubing mascara, meaning it’s an absolute breeze to remove. Simply add warm water and twiddle between your fingers and it’s gone – no rubbing or pulling in sight.

Dr Sam's Flawless Vitamin C NAD+ Serum
This is a fairly new discovery but one that I’ve quickly become obsessed with. It’s lightweight and gentle on the skin but you still get noticeably radiant results – thanks to a blend of 15% vitamin C complex, which works to fight UV damage and free radicals, and reduce pigmentation and fine lines. I also adore the brand’s moisturiser too – you can read about that here.
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush
While I’m very much an advocate for all cream blushers, this is a formula that I go back to time and time again. The tiniest amount blends out to give you such a natural-looking flush of colour, meaning one bottle will last you ages! I have the shade Lucky – it might look scarily fuchsia, but it blends to give a rosy pinched-cheeks finish.
