As autumn approaches, it’s out with conventional reds and pinks and in with orange.
Yes, you read that right! The fruity shade was on lips, cheeks and even, in the case of Balenciaga, eyebrows in the a/w 2010 shows. And it’s totally wearable in real life, too.
“On eyelids, a lively coral will make green eyes pop, or a thin wash of apricot shadow (such as Mac’s Eye Shadow in Rule, £11, maccosmetics.co.uk) with no mascara, gives a soft daytime look,” suggests Alexa Chung’s make-up artist Ashley Ward.

Orange lips look striking, too. “Cool complexions can pull off a brighter orange, as can olive and dark skins, but if you’ve slightly dull or freckly skin, go for a more burnished shade,” says Ward. Try Bobbi Brown’s Metallic Lip Colour in Baby Peach, £22 (0173-023 2566, out 27 September).

Try orange on your nails. “Apricot and amber shades look up-to-date for autumn,” says Ward. We love OPI’s nail polish in Glow, £16.75 (lenawhite.co.uk).
