Artist uses real plants and flowers to create beautiful botanical tattoos

Inspiration for tattoos can be found in many unlikely places: a favourite book, a beloved musician, a powerful feminist quote

One of the easiest places to seek inspiration for an inking, however, is simply the world around us, with floral and botanical tattoos being some of the most popular in the world. After all, who wouldn't want a dainty sprig of flowers permanently etched on their foot, a la Charlize Theron, or a small floral tribute hidden on the back of their neck (we're looking at you, Jessica Alba).

And if floral tattoos are your thing, then you're going to love the work of Ukraine-based artist Rita, who uses real plants and flowers to create beautiful botanical tattoos.

The creative, who has over 176,000 followers on her colourful Instagram account, lives and works in Kiev.

She uses freshly picked herbs, plants and flowers as the basis for her whimsical tattoos, and often uses the plants to first create a sketch on her client before colouring it in with ink.

Unusually for a tattoo artist, Rita shuns the normal practise of sketching out a design and preparing it on the skin.

Instead, she prefers to work simply with fresh flowers and stencils, for a more realistic look.
