Glazed donut skin is out and strawberry girl season is over. This summer’s all about Aperol spritz make-up, and we’re ready to try it out…

If someone were to point out that your make-up looked ‘a bit orange’, you might find yourself running for the nearest mirror in readiness to blend out your foundation or attempt to remove some of your fake tan. But this summer, orange make-up is in – just not in the way you might think.

According to new TikTok data, searches for #orangeblush have seen a huge 90% increase over the past month, following Hailey Bieber’s coining of the term ‘Aperol spritz make-up’. Think last year’s golden hour make-up but with hotter summer hues of orange and sunset blush tones for a vibrant, golden glow.

“When recreating Aperol spritz make-up, I like to use shades of orange, peach and vibrant pinks, alongside dewy, glossy skin for a golden-hour glow,” says make-up artist Aimee Connolly. “Cream formulas will work best for maintaining gorgeously dewy skin to champion an inner glow. Our new Sculpted by Aimee Liquid Lights, £19, liquid blushes and highlighters will be your best friend for any sun-kissed make-up look this year, adding a seamless flush of colour to the high points of the face and even a sweep over the eyelids.”

“The viral ‘sunset blush’ technique works perfectly for this trend. I’ve spotted more beauty creators opt for blush to sculpt and contour this summer – the trick is to use different blush shades to create dimension and enhance your natural features. Blend two to three blush shades to create a gradient, using a deeper, cool-toned blush towards the contouring area and a brighter, more vibrant shade on the apples of the cheeks. Finish with a gold-toned highlight just above your blush placement for added radiance.”

This look isn’t just about the cheeks though. For a full Aperol spritz look, use an orange-toned eyeshadow and a dab of coral or peach lipstick to pull the look together. Ready to try out the trend? Shop our favourite Aperol spritz make-up products below…
