The best duty-free beauty products and deals, as chosen by our beauty editor
Updated 6 years ago
Prepare yourselves, because this year’s holiday is about to get even more exciting – and it’s all thanks to these duty-free beauty exclusives.
There is literally nothing more exciting than going on holiday.
The 3am alarm is only ever acceptable on one day of the year, while endless queuing at the check-in desk and a Wagamama’s breakfast teamed with a 6am G&T are all part of the process.
There’s also that slow meander through duty free that we’re all forced into, too. Some of us use the time to stock up on giant bars of Tolberone “for the office”. Others end up doing a Naomi Campbell and buy bags upon bags of mini KitKats and Haribo. However, can we suggest you bypass the sweets and take a minute to fully explore the beauty section? Because, under the ever-present glow of those fluorescent lights, awaits a treasure trove of exclusive bargains that you literally cannot get elsewhere.
Whether it’s bigger sizes of cult products, cool sets from your favourite brands, bumper duo packs of skincare or simply just getting your hands on products before they’re available on the high street, it’s worth keeping your beady eye out.
If you need a little guidance, though, we’ve rounded up the most impressive bargains that you can either buy once you’ve navigated your way through security, or, thanks to the wonder that is World Duty Free, you can order your products online up to a month before you travel and then pay for and pick up your swag en route to the gate.
The choice is yours - but keep reading to find out what the Stylist beauty team think is worth treating yourself to.
Consider holiday mode fully activated.
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Intense Reset Concentrate
A brand new product in Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair franchise, this treatment is designed to be used whenever skin feels the weight of life’s most stressful times. It works to address irritation, redness and dehydration, while a patented blend of salicylic acid and resveratrol has been combined with hyaluronic acid and amino acids to help smooth, calm and hydrate skin when it needs it most.
Clarins Summer Essentials
Clarins’ SPF is up there with some of our favourites, and this year the brand has re-formulated and re-packaged all of it. This set comes with a both a face and body SPF, along with an aloe vera-infused bottle of after-sun. They’re all less than 100ml in size, too, meaning they don’t have to get left behind if you’re travelling hand luggage-only.
Clinique All About Moisture Set
Clinique’s Moisture Surge range is bestselling for a reason: it’s free of fragrance and it gives skin a much needed hydration boost while helping to replenish lost moisture. This 3-product kit is perfect for travelling. Alongside the full size tub of cream is a hydrating face mist and a cooling under-eye, hydrating cream which is always welcomed after a long flight.
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum Duo Set
Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair has gained cult status since its launch in 1982. Suitable for all skin types, it helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles but won’t clog pores or leave skin looking for feeling greasy. The biggest size you can usually buy is 50ml, but in duty-free you can get 100ml bottles - or go all out and get this 100ml duo.
Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Travel Set
Classique, by Jean Paul Gaultier, is almost a rite-of-passage when it comes to fragrance. The rose, vanilla, orange blossom and amber scent is one that everybody has worn it during at least one stage of their lives. Still a cult classic, you can buy this 100ml bottle paired with a 20ml rollerball - one which, incidentally, you won’t be able to get your hands on anywhere else.
Prep + Prime Fix+ Original Duo
Mac’s Prep + Prime Fix+ is a firm favourite among both make-up affecianados and the make-up artists we speak to backstage at fashion week thanks to its cooling abilities. The lightweight mist is packed with vitamins and minerals to help soothe, refresh and hydrate skin while also giving a dewy finish to make-up. It’s worth noting that this isn’t available in a duo anywhere else: when Fix+ is bought alone from regular retailers it costs £21 per bottle
OPI Infinite Shine Set
OPI nail polishes are up there with some of the very best, and the Infinite Shine formulas are no different. There’s no doubt you wouldn’t get the use out of each and every one of these shades - from a classic red to a brighter pop of pink, or a your-nails-but-better natural, it also includes a top and base coat.
Shiseido Benefiance Travel Essentials Set
Shiseido skincare is some of the most incredible, simply because it harnesses the power of Japanese technology. This mini kit is a great entry point into the brand and includes a cleanser, a skin softener (which helps any skincare applied after it work harder), a day cream and retinol-infused eye masks which are perfect for in flight.
Tom Ford Soleil Lip Trio Set
Who doesn’t love a Tom Ford lipstick? As pricey as they may be, they’re worth it. The set contains three sheer shades from the Essential Soleil collection: Paradiso, Sweet Spot and Solar Affair. Infused with vitamins C and E, along with shea butter, they’ll drench lips in moisture while adding a hint of colour.
