MAC Cosmetics has officially released the launch date of its latest make-up range inspired by late actress and singer Aaliyah Haughton.

Dropping in June 2018, the range, which MAC fans have been pushing for years, will feature nine 90s-hued products inspired by the Try Again singer, including an eyeshadow palette complete with nine shades and, of course, a lipstick. If the teaser pictures on MAC’s official Instagram page are anything to go by, we can expect a mix of sultry nudes, smokey pinks, and iridescent golds.

The launch comes after fans took to website Change.org in 2015 and created a petition calling on MAC to honour the star with her very own make-up range.

Affectionately known as R&B’s princess, Aaliyah tragically died in a plane crash in 2001.

The page read: “Aaliyah is truly ‘One in a Million’ — an unstoppable icon whose ground-breaking work in R&B music and film inspires us all. Today, we join her countless fans in celebrating her with the announcement of the MAC Aaliyah collection.”

Two years later and the dream has become a reality. MAC’s official Instagram page announced the news with a black and white photo of Aaliyah and the caption:

“Aaliyah super-fans everywhere – YOU made it happen!…”Citing her fans’ loyalty and love as inspiration behind the products, the brand went on say that the singer will live on “in a makeup collection influenced by her groundbreaking work in music and film.”

Of course, Twitter went into overdrive using the hashtag #AaliyahforMAC as fans speculated what they could expect from the collection, and even if some of her favourite discontinued products might make a comeback. The petition received close to 27,000 signatures from around the work and was backed by music legend Missy Elliott and Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton. 

This isn’t the first time MAC have launched a collection in posthumous honour, though. In 2016 a collection celebrating the beauty and style of singer, actress and fashion designer Selena Quintanilla was unveiled. Known for her winged eyeliner and red lips, the collection sold out within minutes and was being resold on eBay for more than twice its original value.

So when can you land your hands on the Aaliyah X MAC range? Well it launches online in North America 20 June and will be available internationally later this year.
