Beat the heat (and your efforts on the dancefloor) with our top tips for wedding-day beauty…
Weddings are always good fun and a great opportunity to let your hair down. Having your make-up melt halfway through one isn’t so fun though, and with most nuptials taking place during the summer, it’s definitely a risk.
Coupled with the fact that you’re likely to be getting ready in a hotel room instead of your own, weddings can be a bit of a beauty nightmare - unless you’re staying at Premier Inn, in which case you’re covered as they’ve thought of practically everything when it comes to wedding prep.
Here’s our guide on how to make your wedding guest beauty last all day and night, from industry tips to long-lasting products.
Protect your nails
No matter how fresh your manicure is, chipping can happen like *that*.
For the most polished look, do your nails the night before and follow the tried-and-tested order: base coat, two layers of colour and not one but two layers of a clear top coat.
Ensure the tips are properly protected by swiping an extra layer over them – it keeps chips at bay for an extra few days. Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat is a firm favourite for its durable formula.
Supercharge your shower
All your prep starts with a good shower.
With a power shower in every room at Premier Inn (and a bath in most if you prefer a good soak), you can really make the most of your wedding-day prep.
For a truly uplifting wake-up call, try a peppermint-infused shower gel such as Dr. Bronner’s Organic Peppermint Pure-Castile Liquid Soap to invigorate mind and body before the day ahead.
For a quick burst of energy, finish with a blast of cold water from head to toe and top it all off with a nourishing body oil such as Nuxe Huile Prodigeuse Riche to get your glow on.
Life-proof your make-up
Longwear make-up and weddings really do go hand-in-hand.
Start with moisturised skin (with an SPF if the wedding is outdoors) and a primer such as Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer that’ll create a smooth canvas and really make your foundation last all day.
Pick a semi-matte formula such as Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation if your skin is dry or normal, or a full coverage mattifying one (we love Huda Beauty’s #FauxFilter Foundation) to keep oil at bay.
Take advantage of the backlit beauty mirrors in Premier Inn rooms to ensure everything is evenly blended – they’re perfect for catching those wayward slicks of foundation.
Give your foundation a few minutes to settle before blotting your entire face with a tissue. Removing any excess oil from the skin’s surface will avoid your foundation from caking and wearing off throughout the day.
Finish with a light dusting of translucent loose powder (Laura Mercier Setting Powder has a huge cult following from make-up artists and beauty bloggers alike) to set everything in place while still allowing your skin to look like skin.
Layering a liquid or cream product underneath a powder can really boost its staying power for a few more hours.
Try a gel-cream formula such as Glossier’s Cloud Paint (the Dusk shade doubles as a bronzer and a blusher), before lightly dusting over cheeks with a complementary powder shade. Bare Minerals’ Gen Nude blushers come in a beautifully diverse range of colours to suit every skin tone.
Top everything off with a setting spray (you don’t want all that hard work to go to waste) such as Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray – not even sweat or a full-on downpour of rain can make it budge.
Blow-dry for longevity
The life of a great hairstyle can really be extended with a good blow-dry.
Grab one of Premier Inn’s powerful hairdryers and a boar bristle round brush such as ghd’s Natural Bristle Radial Brush to dry hair straight, or roll it back and forth to create loose waves. For curls, try a diffuser to keep your coils bouncy and volumised.
Finish with some cold air to set your style in place and head off to the ceremony, knowing you’ll look great all day.
