What the full moon eclipse in Virgo means for you.
Each full moon brings its own energetic shift, and the next one is set to be big. It falls in March and, as the last full moon of winter here in the northern hemisphere, it is commonly known as the worm moon.
This worm moon, though, is going to be special. “The universe is about to hit us with a massive cosmic reset, and trust me, you don’t want to sleep on this one,” says astrologer Betty Andrews. “On 14 March 2025, we welcome a powerful full moon in Virgo. This isn’t just any full moon; it’s a total lunar eclipse, meaning the energy is intense, transformative and downright unavoidable.”

What is the significance of a total lunar eclipse?
Total lunar eclipses are rare. In fact, this will be the first one in three years.
According to Andrews, they tend to bring some major shifts in cosmic energy. “Lunar eclipses are like emotional earthquakes: they shake things up, reveal hidden truths and push us out of our comfort zones,” she says. “Unlike a regular full moon (which is already about releasing and letting go), a total eclipse magnifies everything, forcing us to see what’s not working, where we’re stuck and what we need to release.”
Think of it as a ‘hard reset’ that you probably won’t be able to avoid. “There’s no escaping it,” she says. “Whatever isn’t aligned will be exposed. Whatever is fake will fall apart.”

What is a blood moon?
The total lunar eclipse will create what is known as a ‘blood moon’, which occurs when a full moon happens to coincide with a total lunar eclipse, giving the moon an eerie red glow caused by the sun’s light falling into the shadow cast by Earth.
A total lunar eclipse in Virgo
Added to all of this is a touch of Virgo energy.
“With this eclipse happening in Virgo – the zodiac’s detail-obsessed, perfectionist queen – we will be asked to look at where we’re gripping too tightly, how perfectionism is holding us back from true freedom and the toxic cycles of overthinking, overanalysing and overworking ourselves,” says Andrews.
Contrary to what you might think, however, this full moon shouldn’t make you feel like you need to fix everything in your life – quite the opposite. “This moon is not about fixing things – it’s about letting go of the belief that you need to fix everything in the first place,” she says.
A second eclipse
The blood worm moon will usher in eclipse season, and as Andrews notes, eclipses come in pairs.
“On 14–15 March 2025, we have the total lunar eclipse in Virgo, a deeply emotional and revealing event that will illuminate what needs to be released, where we’re holding on too tightly and what perfectionism or control issues are keeping us stuck,” she says.
This paves the way for a solar eclipse later in the month. “On 29 March 2025, we experience a partial solar eclipse in Aries – a fiery, bold and action-driven event that signals fresh starts, courage and initiation,” she says. “If the lunar eclipse is about releasing and surrendering, the solar eclipse is about stepping into the new, claiming your power and taking decisive action.”

Work with the energy of March’s blood moon
Here is how Andrews recommends preparing for the coming eclipse season and all of the changes it will bring.
1. Surrender control and release perfectionism
Virgo loves order, but this eclipse is asking: What if I stopped micromanaging and trusted things to unfold naturally? Journal about what you’re afraid to let go of and release the need to have it all figured out.
2. Detox your mind, body and space
Virgo rules purification, so cleanse in every way:
- Declutter your space: let go of anything that carries old energy.
- Unplug from negativity: step back from draining people and habits.
- Nourish yourself: hydrate, rest and move your body with intention.
3. Expect the unexpected and stay open
Eclipses bring sudden shifts and revelations. If something is ending, trust that it’s making space for something better. Emotions may rise. Breathe through them and trust the process.
4. Work with the moon’s energy
- Take a ritual bath with salts and herbs to cleanse your energy.
- Charge crystals like black tourmaline (grounding) and amethyst (intuition).
- Do a cord-cutting meditation to release what no longer serves you.
5. Set intentions for the next chapter
With the Aries solar eclipse ahead, ask: Who am I becoming? This is a time to release what’s holding you back and prepare for a bold, new beginning.
