    TRESemme's textured and tousled look

Summer's on its way and whether you're going on holiday or not, here's an easy way to get those coveted beach-style waves, with dry hair:

1 Starting from the nape of the neck, take one large section of hair at a time, wrapping it round a TRESemme wand. Leave a small section at the end to keep it loose and casual looking.

2 Repeat until all hair is curled.

3 Brush through using a soft bristled brush to make it look natural and give it a beachy look

4 Flip hair forward and spray with TRESemme Texture Style Tousled Wave Spray, holding it at arm’s length for even coverage.

5 Flip back again and lightly shake your head so the hair falls naturally.

    Yifang Wan's rich boho look

Created by the Toni & Guy label. m team, the hair at the Yifang Wan spring/summer 2013 show was inspired by a simple, chic Jil Sander meets Helmut Lang look: centre-parted and gorgeously glossy. Here's how to recreate the style:

1 Prep hair with label.m protein spray to create a light, hydrated natural sheen.

2 Centre-part the hair with a pintail comb for a clean and precise finish.

3 Take a horizontal section across the head either side of the ears, divide this just above the ear, exposing some of the length.

4 Smooth the remaining top section up and over the ear, pinning neatly at the nape. Finish with a misting of label.m Hairspray to hold.

Slicked back hair made a double appearance on the red carpet at the BAFTAs, with Jennifer Lawrence and Alicia Vikander both sporting the look.

International Creative Director at Nicky Clarke, Warren Holmes gives his expert tips on how to recreate this look:

    1. Dry the hair until 90% dry – but don’t toss your head upside down, do it in a controlled manner to keep the parting in place and avoid any frizz made by rough drying. Use the dryer in a downwards direction, making sure the roots are flat and away from your forehead.

    2. Take two inch sections of hair starting from the front hair line and working backwards.

    3. Using a Nicky Clarke Salon Pro Straightener With Comb, straighten the hair from the roots to ends.

    4. Straighten in one single motion in order to close the hair cuticle and create sleek hair. The secret to creating that mirrored effect.

“I’m loving Anne Hathaway’s short crop that has been textured and almost deconstructed. It’s very feminine and you’ll need regular trips to your stylist for this style. Block colour is essential and a craft clay (I like Wella’s) will keep it looking shiny and defined.”

Pol Garcia, Style Director at Rossano Ferretti (his clients include Pippa Middleton and Poppy Delevingne) explains how to get this loose, sexy chignon, with a dose of old school glamour.

    Get the look:

    1. Wash your hair the day before to giving it a little more ‘grip’. Any dirtier, the hair can look a little opaque and lose shine. Spray the lengths of the hair with a heat protective styling spray such as L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni Art. Divide hair into 3 sections to allow control

    2. Using a 1 Inch size tong – start from the back tonging each section, parallel to the next, concentrating more on the front sections. Then, section off a side parting and sweep across, smoothing the crown over, before using your hand fingers together like a paddle to ‘mould’ the position of waves.

    3. Pin each ‘finger wave’ (the kink of the wave) with a section clip or grip, alternating each placement of the grip to back to front. Put a little piece of paper under each grip to avoid crimping the wave and keeping it smooth. Spray with lightly with a setting hairspray and leave for 20 minutes

    4. Once your waves are prepared and set, sweep the around the side and pin securely at the nape of the neck at one side

    5. Gently bring around the front, main section and bring around the pin both sections together, loosely around each other into a soft bun. Spray with setting finishing spray

    Lucy Liu's double braided plait

    Lucy Liu's double braided plait

Lucy Liu opted for double whammy of braided styles at the Golden Globes – a classic French braid followed by a fishtail. Craig Pellowe, Advanced Director at Nicky Clarke salons, explains how to get the look:

    Get the look:

    1. Coat towel dried hair with mousse, then rough dry until 80 percent dry. Apply Nicky Clarke Hair Raising through roots to mid lengths. With your hairdryer on full heat and medium speed, lift roots with a vent brush to give root lift and height.

    2. My pet hate is frizzy hair around the hairline so firstly smooth any unruly hairs around the hairline with a small bristle brush and hair dyer, paying attention to temple areas.

    3. Create a side parting roughly in the middle of brow, then create a second part along the front of the hairline around two inches wide, which will create the start of your plait/braid. Clip hair away from the braid to avoid confusion.

    4. The first part of Lucy's fringe braid is a classic french braid technique of weaving three pieces of hair over and under each other. Work your way across the forehead with the braid picking up hair as you go. Keep as tight and close to the head as possible so that the braid remains in the right direction across the forehead. Follow this technique down past the ear into the nape, where you are going to divide the 3 parts of hair you have into 2 – to finish off with a fishtail braid.

    5. To achieve the fishtail, take your 2 sections of hair and pull a thin section of hair from the outside of the left section and pull it over the top, then take it under the right section. Then pull a thin section from the outside of the right section, pull it over the right section and take it under the left section. Repeat the alternate process until you run out of hair and this is your fishtail plait/braid. Tie at the end with snag band/hair band to secure braid

    The young Hollywood Wave

    Pol Garcia says..

“This is easy to re-create, very wearable and can be worn on girls all ages. This speaks of high glamour and is a sexy, modern take on a bouncy blow-dry. Smoother, softer and more sophisticated for the red carpet and works well to complement nude and strapless looks”

    Get the look:

    1. Wash and blow-dry 80% of the hair. Apply a styling or polishing cream such as Shu Uemura Polishing Cream through the lengths and ends

    2. Take each 3 sections – the crown, middle section, nape and sides. Starting from the nape and the back, smooth it out with a round brush, nozzle of the dryer pointing down (drying off the lengths with a round brush this will create shine and colour reflection), before rolling each section into a gripped roller and pinning in place

    3. Using at least 8 rollers in total on the hair (2 in each section is a good guide) and make sure the front rollers are rolled inwards towards the face this will ensure you get the height you need and stop it falling flat around the eyes and cheekbones. After 20 minutes, take out the rollers and brush through, parting off at the side

    4. Once your bouncy waves are prepared sweep the around the side and pin securely at the nape of the neck at one side, underneath the top section, allowing the rest to fall loosely over the top with all grips hidden. Spray with setting finishing spray

    Get the look:

    1. Using a little of Moroccan oil, spread evenly on the mid lengths and ends of the hair whilst the hair is still wet, and start to blowdry using a paddle brush to smooth the hair straight. This can be done quickly and roughly to save time as the hair will be straightened afterwards.

    2. Once the hair is dry, part the hair with a deep side parting as seen in the picture. Using the straighteners smooth each section repeating until all of the hair is smooth and straight.

    3. Next apply a pea sized amount of Gel forte by Wella evenly to a comb and gently comb the hair behind the ear, whilst blow drying the hair in the same direction. This will leave a matte finish and flatten hair behind the ear - use a pin to secure if necessary.

    4. Take sections of hair around the crown and back comb gently, then sprinkle hair powder to help the back-combing last longer and create body. Next smooth the hair over the crown by brushing the hair carefully and softly using a bristle brush backwards over the crown.

    5. Apply a small amount of gel forte to a comb and begin to comb and blow dry the hair up and over to the side to completing the look. Use hairspray to fix the style in place.

    1. Start off by parting to the side, then apply TRESemmé Heat Defence Spray throughout the hair from root to ends. Using medium tongs, take small sections of the hair and tong the hair vertically, making sure it’s directed towards you face. On each side, pin each curl in place using section pins.

    2. Allow time for the hair to cool down before taking out the pins, then remove, and using a soft bristle brush, brush through gently, ensuring you keep that shape still in place.

    3. Pin under the ends at the nape of the neck to create a faux bob effect, letting shorter layers at the front fall loosely around the face.

    4. Spray TRESemmé Touchable Finish hairspray over the top of the hair and before its sets comb through the top section to smooth down.

    Amanda Seyfried's knotted bun

Amanda Seyfried's fresh take on the chignon is achieved by plaiting the hair in a chain-like loop.

    Get the look:

    1. Start off with smoothly blow dried hair – prep the hair with TRESemmé Heat Defence spray and blow dry the hair towards the back of the head for extra smoothness.

    2. Tightly tie the hair together at the crown of the head ensuring the front stays looking smooth.

    3. Using medium-sized tongs, curl the hair at the back in medium size sections all in one direction. Lightly spritz the hair before tonging each section with something that won't feel heavy on the hair - TRESemmé 24 body Finishing Spray is great at keeping the hold without that crunchy/hard feeling you might get with other sprays.

    4. Softly brush the curls through with a soft bristle brush, then run serum through hair to the ends to give a glossy natural finish.

    5. Pin a few curls around the crown using bobby pins. Try and pin close to the elastic so it’s not visible. Carefully pin in place curls where they naturally fall so it looks neat and more of a beautiful shape.

    6. For that final finish and hold, spray hairspray all over to secure the look.

    Naomi Watts' relaxed up-do

    Naomi Watts' relaxed up-do

Creating this effortless, relaxed up do is quite simple, but Francesca Saville, Art Director at Taylor Taylor London advises to start by using a high quality shampoo and conditioner (she loves the SLS and paraben free Hippy & The Holistics Be Lifted Shampoo, Elixir and Conditioner) to give hair a thickness and bounce that's easy to work with.

    Get the look:

    1. Start by prepping the hair. The easiest way to do this is to tip your head upside down and spray it heavily with a styling spray (Francesca uses Re-shaper by Sebastian Wella). Hold your head like this for a few seconds until dry. This will leave your hair big with lots of texture.

    2. Pre-heat a curling tong, and separate the hair into large sections. With the tongs pointing downwards, wrap each section of the hair around the tong and hold in place for 5-10 seconds. Don’t worry if the sections are not neat as this will help to create more texture in the curls.

3.Take a soft bristled brush and gently brush through each curl to leave loose and slightly textured curls.

    4. Part your hair on the side, and separate a 4 inch wide section at the front and pin out of the way.

5.Scoop the remaining hair around to the side and back comb sections to add volume. Tuck your hair under and pin at the nape of your neck and unpin the front section to create this fuss free glam look.

6.To finish, spray your hair with Re-shaper and sprinkle with a volumising powder such as Pure Abundance Hair Potion, by Aveda.

Lea's french braid is surprisingly easy to achieve, and can be tight and tamed for a stronger, more uniform result or loose and disheveled for a more laid-back look.

    Get the look:

    1. Prep hair with shampoo and conditioner, and apply Nicky Clarke Hair Raising to your damp hair - roots to ends.

    2. Dry hair completely -holding the dryer above your head pointing down. (This keeps your hair smooth and stops hair becoming flyaway and messy)

    3. Part your hair on the side. Take a section from the top of the parting to the ear. And the same on the other side.

    4. Starting at the parting, plait the section downwards -towards the ear, bringing in the necessary hair as you follow down your plait.

    5. When you reach the ear, follow your plait around the hairline, over the ear and down to the nape. Once you've reached this point, stop adding hair in and plait as normal to the ends of the hair and secure with a small band. Repeat Step 5 on the smaller side of the parting.

6.Take a section into a point on the crown of your head. Create the same plait as the front two sections going either to the left or right (whichever you desire). Meeting your plaits at the nape.

    7. Twist or fold the 3 plaits into a bun at the nape and pin, and to finish, use Nicky Clarke Hold and Shine.

    3. Remove all the clips and gently brush the hair and push into large bouncy curls, twisting individual waves at the same time. Finish off with a medium hold spray such as Osis Session.

    Multi-coloured, choppy crop

    Multi-coloured, choppy crop

The Brodie style from Toni & Guy is an amalgamation of hair influences, from 1990’s inspired short and soft layers (think Meg Ryan) to the AW12 catwalk colour of the season - purple. This catwalk craze translates its way into tresses with hints of Amethyst and Lace Agate for a fresh, vibrant finish.

Tulisa wore her hair in an elegant faux bob on the X Factor last weekend.

    Get the look:

    1. Volume and strength are essential for this look to maintain it's shape and stay in place. Prep the hair using Nicky Clarke Great Body Ultimate Mousse.

    2. Blow dry the length and ends using a round brush. Add heated rollers for a little movement on the ends and volume at the roots

    3. Subdivide the hair through the back down the middle, below the crown. Roll half around two fingers and pin in

    4. Repeat on the other side of the back, combing the section of hair downwards and rolling around two fingers. If the hair is thin, gently tease the sections at the roots and mid lengths before rolling and securing. Use large grips and grip the roll either side into the head

    5. There will now be two sections at the back of the head rolled and pinned under at the hairline. Take the sides and gently bring to the back roll, roll around two fingers once more and begin hiding the ends into the roll. Do the same on the opposite side.

    6. Using your fingers, pull the sides gently to loosen up the mid lengths until you get the bob shape. Finish with Nicky Clarke Hold and Shine Ultimate hairspray for hold and control

    Plaited ponytail

    Plaited ponytail

As seen on the runway at David Koma, this sports luxe style is a modern ponytail/plait hybrid.

    Get the look:

    1. Give the lower section of the hair a liberal spritz of ghd style straight and smooth spray, then using a hairdryer, quickly blow-dry the hair smooth, training the roots back toward the crown.

    2. When hair is 90% dry, horizontally section across the back of the head about 1cm above the ear and 1cm below. You should now have three sections of hair.

    3. Run a ghd oval dressing brush over the bottom half to create a smooth texture then spray liberally with hairspray and secure in a low ponytail at the nape.

    4. Pull the sides of the mid-section back with a brush spraying hairspray close to the roots to create maximum shine.

    5. Taking the top section of hair, add a generous amount of ghd style root lift spray for texture. Comb hair backwards to encourage raised line.

    6. Join the top section to the tied ponytail and plait the top section into a braid, then join it to the bottom ponytail by tying at the nape of the neck.

    7. Finish by running the ghd V gold max styler down the length of the pony and spraying withhairspray.
